Kickin’ Butt

Kickin’ Butt

Alarm went off before 5am today.  Slid out of bed, into the bathroom, and into my work out clothes.  Ran downstairs to fetch my water bottle of Vitacoco from the fridge, back up the stairs, and hit the spare room where the treadmill awaits!  Today was IR4 – Interval Run 4, and it was going to be awesome!

Our treadmill lives in our spare bedroom, which we call the Spare-oom, just like the room where the Wardrobe lives in the Chronicles of Narnia, LOL.   We’re kinda corny in my family, but fun and loving too.   I get on the treadmill, and begin the 5.0 mph run, heading straight toward my first 7.0 mph sprint.   As the first sprint begins, and the growling dog starts to chase me, I stare straight ahead at the closet door in front of me, where I visualize (of all things)….Cinderella’s Castle.  As I run toward the Castle, my heart rate rising, I can feel the excitement building.   One day….this is going to be real.  As I run, the sound of my kicks hitting the tread pounds out a rhythm which forms these words in my head, “Ma-Gic – King – Dom, Ma-Gic – King – Dom, Ma-Gic – King – Dom” …and I run and run, and run just like this, until recovery time, and then 3 repeats.

I’m getting better and better at this, feeling strong and capable and (a lil) bad @ss.  Into my consciousness creeps the realization — these positive signs mean that soon you’ll have to PUSH again, and kick up the speed.  Ugh!!!  But not today.  Today — You’ve given your all Diane — and you head off to work with your engine burning, your head held high, with spirits soaring from a job well done!

Ciao for now…..Diane

About Diane

Ciao! My name is Diane. I'm a wife, a mom, a working professional, and a Weight Watcher from New Jersey. I started blogging in 2011, at 45 years old, when I was training for my first Half Marathon at Rutgers on April 22, 2012. Since then, I've lost 80 pounds, completed my Half Marathon goal and gone on to train for and run my very first Full Marathon. On Jan 13, 2013, I ran the Disney Marathon in Orlando, Fl! What an incredible day. As the saying goes -- "The person who starts the race is not the same person who finishes the race." I am forever changed! So now we move on to the next phase of this journey! Come along. We're in this together!! Ciao for now!
