Remember her?? Susan Powter? God she was funny. And crazy. And usually right.
Back in the 1990s — when most were low-fatting, diet-ing and anti-carbing everything, Susan was an advocate of a whole-foods, organic, low-fat diet — W.A.Y. ahead of her times. And if you remember her body. That G.I.R.L. was ripped!! She was the real deal in her call for regular cardiovascular and strength-training exercise. She made one of the first “radical” claims — that you couldn’t lose weight by d.i.e.t.i.n.g. Say WHAT???
Yea, she condemned the diet industry. Now in the 21st Century, we’d look back and say that Susan was a proponent of “Eating Clean”….,um, er…..while she screamed at you!
My own “stop the insanity” moment this week didn’t happen on my plate. It happened on my feet. I’ve been suffering. SUFFERING from a sore heel. It has just never gotten better since the Marathon. In fact. I think it’s worse now than it was then, at the height of my mileage. Why? Why? Porque??
Well – one day, Saturday — I flip flopped again and pulled out my orthotic — the one the Shoe Dog measured for me. And began to run. Well. I just realized today — that today was the first morning I’ve gotten out of bed and stepped on my right foot, without cringing in pain.
For a few months, I thought the extra arch support of the orthotic was heaven…..but…..over time — it has really hurt my heel. So it’s out. FOr good!. Maybe, maaaaybe I will walk in the orthotic occasionally. But no more running in it. No more.
No more driving myself crazy about what the right thing is. Say it for me Susan! In your awesome crazy lady scream……“STOP THE INSANITY!”
Step One to calming the voices in my head. 🙂
Ciao for now…Diane
