“You just have to collect some wins Diane”. I can hear Marathon Brian’s voice in my head. When I begin to doubt myself, that is always his advice. It’s great advice!! But I bet he wonders why I keep going to this weak, doubt-ing place. I kinda wonder that myself. Why do I? Exploring myself….is necessary! A great tool for doing this is … the bookstore! the beginning of something else
After my “crash and burn” 5K on Sunday, I did go for that bike ride. And it was uplifting in a number of ways. Read the rest of this entry
it’s inside versus outside, duh!!
So I ran the 5K again this morning. I was successful. It wasn’t debatable this time. It was Gonna Happen! But it was rough. Tough. It was a fight. As soon as I said that word in my head, as I was running today, all the pieces fell together. All those runs, out on the pavement, when I was training for the half…… They were ALL a fight. I remember (back then), saying, writing, typing….that I had to learn to be a Fighter! I think I’ve lost, misplaced, forgotten, some of my Fight. These past weeks I’ve been running on the treadmill, because it’s been really hot outside…..and THAT explains alot! Let’s go…. Read the rest of this entry
low, low, low, how low can I go….
This day started at 630am with a gorgeous temp of 67 degrees……..Outside was calling me. Gotta answer! I set a personal goal to run a 5k this morning — I wanted to see how much faster I could run versus my first 5K last October 2011. Even though I know my pace has improved….the answer to how much faster I was — is: NONE, Zilch, Nada.
Why NONE, you ask? Well, for one very simple reason. I Quit. Read the rest of this entry
speed-ier and speed-ier
Beginning this week, we have moved into heat wave #4 for this summer…..and we still have a month and a half of summer left to go! Hoooweee…it’s hot out there. For me it translates into more treadmill runs, and less time outside. That’s ok. Since my husband bought me a portable air conditioner unit that lives in the spare room with the treadmill, running inside has some relief from the heat. And I’m learning the mental strength to fight the boredom, so it doesn’t bother me as much. Read the rest of this entry
Food by the Mile…
When I got home from our vacation in Florida, after all the laundry was done….I opened the door to the spare room and hit the treadmill. I did my Sunday 2 mile run at 5.5 on the treadmill — which was faster than my previous runs. It just proved to me that habits have a time and a place. The trick is….this is true for good habits, …hmmm, and bad ones too ;>) Tricky!

Slight Change of Plan
I’m just back from Florida, visiting my Mom. It was great fun, alot of sun, alot more HEAT! But all in all, a really good trip. I ran some, WALKED alot! As I walked through Disney World day after day, I was kind of pleased that I ended many days having been in motion for 8 or more hours. I had an epiphany halfway through the trip, realizing that on Marathon Day — I will be running, walking, moving toward the finish line for between 5 and 1/2 and 6 1/2 hours (if I’m lucky!) Perspective is a funny thing
Driving around “The World of Mouse” down here in Orlando today…..I couldn’t help noticing how darn faaaaar away everything seemed. Could this have anything to do with the fact that the next time I am here, I will be running these same roads from Epcot to the Magic Kingdom, then onto the Animal Kingdom, pressing onward to the Hollywood Studios, and finally back to the Imagination Parking lot for the finish line in Epcot? Hmmmm, that perspective could have something to do with it!!! LMAO!! Read the rest of this entry
Fire or Ice
I have been offline for a bit because I’m on vacation visiting my mom. My training has been gong well, so I will catch up on my weekly updates when I get home. Until then, I thought I might share some reflections of lessons learned about running in Florida. Read the rest of this entry
