Rest day was uplifting. I biked to my Weight Watchers 8am meeting in a light breeze — it was glorious. The scale was good to me because I was good to myself this week. I had a loss of 4.4 pounds. Ohh that feedback felt G.O.O.D.!! All the good decisions I made this week regarding my body…lead to great decisions regarding food. It’s funny how that works. This week I ran 5 days, biked 3 days, did Zumba 2 days, gardened 1 day, hand weights everyday. It was an extraordinary week — but it was just what I needed to prove to myself that my “POWER” was inside and all I had to do was wake the sleeping giant. Read the rest of this entry

Filling in the Gap…
In today’s economic environment, unfortunately many of you might be able to relate to what I’m about to say. You know how when you are working, and then your company downsizes, and you end up unemployed for a bit — you end up with a gap in your resume. A Gap — Time that is unaccounted for. When you go looking for a new job, recruiters and headhunters advise you to fill in the gap — ie, explain what you were doing with your time. So your future employer doesn’t think you were “doing time somewhere“, instead of spending your time somewhere…..if you catch the difference!! Here in the blog-o-sphere, I’ve got a gap — pretty much the entire month of August — where I didn’t post, didn’t blog, didn’t share. And since it’s Saturday, and Saturday is a rest day from running — I figured I would take the time, accept responsibility, and explain to you, my loyal friends, what I did with those 4 weeks. Fill in my gap. Confess. Here we go…. Read the rest of this entry
The heat is on….the heat is o-on!
So I think Mother Nature is in cahoots with Marathon Brian. The first two days of my homework running was nice and cool, 67 degrees. so Not-August. Well, today, she turned up the heat. And I felt it!! I could hear Marathon Brian’s words yesterday, “good job..keep it up. your mentality is changing. but don’t get too cocky now.” Well, no worries about that Running Yoda! Mother Nature cooled me down by turning up the heat! Here’s how it went down. Read the rest of this entry
Deja vu — homework part two!
Another two miles, and No Walking — NONE! Marathon Brian’s email late yesterday afternoon encouraged me — and set my expectations. He told me not to expect miracles….that it was going to feel about the same as yesterday. And I was going to have to continue to fight the urge to stop. Is it too defiant to admit I was hoping he was wrong???? Well, he wasn’t. Come, I’ll tell you the whole thing. Read the rest of this entry
Do The Homework
“Do the Homework.”
“Do the Homework.”
“Do the Homework.”
That was the mantra I repeated to myself as I hit the pavement this morning. It was POWERFUL! Listen up! Read the rest of this entry

Day 1: Goal — MET
Today is Monday..the last one of August 2012. I met the day out on my street, sneakers laced and tied. Wiped the sleep from my face, and began running. ………3 miles is what today required. And I did it. It felt hard. I haven’t been running enough lately. But it’s Today. It’s Day 1. Day 1 of the next 20 weeks. 20 weeks that will take me from that spot, outside my house, at the end of my driveway……all the way to the Starting Line of the Disney Marathon in Orlando Florida. 20 weeks…to get to the beginning. Yup. That’s how this goes….
Cool.
Ciao for now….Diane
Learning to rest in California
Peter, the girls and I flew into San Diego from Newark, NJ. My mom and my sister Debra flew in from their home in Orlando, Fl. We had two weeks ahead of us — fun, sun, sights and relaxation. To say we had a plan is about 50% accurate. We had a schedule to move from San Diego north to LA, and Anaheim, and then on to Santa Barbara…..but what we did, and how long we took to do it…well…that was up to fate and enjoyment. it’s about learning AND unlearning
“You just have to collect some wins Diane”. I can hear Marathon Brian’s voice in my head. When I begin to doubt myself, that is always his advice. It’s great advice!! But I bet he wonders why I keep going to this weak, doubt-ing place. I kinda wonder that myself. Why do I? Exploring myself….is necessary! A great tool for doing this is … the bookstore! the beginning of something else
After my “crash and burn” 5K on Sunday, I did go for that bike ride. And it was uplifting in a number of ways. Read the rest of this entry
