“Get a Vision for Your Self and …..It Will Pull You Forward.” I just heard this on Oprah Life Class, of all places, but Gosh, this is so true! I could barely walk around the block, when my Vision was born. I didn’t own running shoes. I couldn’t breathe and talk at the same time. But already, my Vision had begun to change my life….simply because I dared to be brave enough to speak it. “I Am A Runner”. Read the rest of this entry

Countdown 4 Weeks! Yellow Alert!!
Ok calm down. There is no need to be alarmed, no need for a raised level of concern. My Yellow Alert is a good thing. Yellow was the Aura around my Long Run today. Let me explain! Read the rest of this entry
The Countdown Begins!! 5 Weeks!
It was a busy weekend full of chores, and shopping, and paper mache school projects and Susan B Anthony presentation prep……and running. Yes running. 6.5 miles of running on Sunday….18 miles for the week. This week, distance didn’t matter. Pace didn’t matter. Speed, time — nope…didn’t matter. This week, the only thing that mattered was mental. Did I enjoy it. Enjoyment. Yeah…..That’s what mattered. That’s really all that ever really mattered all along. Read the rest of this entry
Paying It Forward
I woke up this morning around 643am — just a few minutes before the alarm was to go off. As I lay there under the sheets and my quilt, I heard a signal of a different sort. The birds outside — they were chirping and singing. Not squawking the way they do when they’ve returned from the south juuuust a little too early, and their alarming chatter is present to warn you — stay under the blankets, tuck the quilt a little tighter — it’s COLD out here. Nope, not today. The birds were singing– those light, beautiful, melodically spaced chirps — offering notes of encouragement — “It’s safe to come outdoors — it’s NICE today.” So I knew what needed to happen. Exercising the Mind
Well, I’m finally feeling better. My only cold during my whole training so far — went straight to my lungs, and put me off the road for a week. I took the time to rest, because…well….breathing IS a requirement for running. So, I needed it. Period. End of Guilt.
Seven days later……Getting back on the road was I.N.T.E.R.E.S.T.I.N.G. Read the rest of this entry
Pep Talk
Ok Team — put your arms around the shoulders of your team mates and Huddle In. Heads together. Look to your right – “How’s she doing?” Look to your left – “How’s he doing?” Yeah. Me too. We’re tired. It’s Ok. We’ve been at this training for 13 weeks now. It’s Ok. I’ve got good news. I had a chat with the Coach today (aka Marathon Brian), and I’ve got some info that will pick US up. Huddle in. Let’s Chat. Read the rest of this entry
Training Weeks 11 &12 – Lessons ’round every corner
Cover your ears (or maybe its your eyes) Marathon Brian — but Training Week 11 was all about changing my perspective and, dare I say it, embracing walking!! Now, don’t let the steam blow out your ears….I’m not backsliding. I’m just trying a new strategy that I hope feeds my success. Here’s what I mean. Read the rest of this entry
Training Week #10 – Catching Up
First, my apology. I’m sorry I have been off the blog for so long. It was wrong, and even though I have my reasons, I owe it to myself (and to you) to keep current with this journey. When I first started the blog, I kinda promised myself not to put the negative out there, not to clutter the World Wide Universe with my drama. But I’ve come to realize….that’s not really very “real“. Life is full of good and bad, shiny and dull, ups and downs, and if I don’t allow myself to put it ALL out there, then what I am chosing to do is to silence myself. To “stuff the proverbial sock in it” when the downs come. Well, no more. This post is a short and sweet one to catch you up on last week, and then I’m moving on and putting it all out there.
