Just like the classic postal system saying, “neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep this runner from her appointed rounds!” Snow, or no snow, I had a job to do, and d@mnit, I had to get it done! Week 5 asked for 17 miles, and just like the postmen, I delivered!! Read the rest of this entry

Imagery
This week has been a great opportunity to explore the use of Imagery as a motivatIonal tool. My runs have been 2.5 miles each on average, but they have been just about every day for six days a week. The accumulation of that work starts to feel heavy….and I found I needed something to carry me through it. Read the rest of this entry

Training Week 4 is complete with 16 miles under foot for the week. The other thing Week 4 brought me was an important lesson. Week 4 taught me to fight! What does that mean?? Well, let’s review the week, and I’ll explain. Read the rest of this entry

Shout Out to all my fellow-Perfectionists out there. YOU know who YOU are!!
Oh, you don’t think you are a perfectionist? Hmmm, for a long time, I didn’t think I was either. But I’ve come to learn over the years, that I am one, and I need to look out for it because it is a weakness that makes me very hard on myself. Read the rest of this entry
Training Week 3 – complete!
Put the forks and knives away, and wipe that chocolate off your face. The Eating Season is finally Over! Hooray!!!!!!! And not a moment too soon. Whew, it’s been a long two months. It started with those butterfingers at Halloween, continued through the turkey, gravy and biscuits for Thanksgiving, Peppermint Bark and way too many cookies for Christmas, and finally, finally….those pigs in those darn blankets with a champagne chaser on New Years Eve. In my house, it goes even one week longer, because January 6th is my birthday — so can we squeeze a little more cake or pie into those jeans? I ask ya!!
Ok, lets all open the top button on our pants and let out a collective sigh of relief … The Eating Season is Over! Amen! The End! Read the rest of this entry
it’s ma birthday…..it’s ma birthday…
Yes, it’s true….I’m an Epiphany baby. There’s something Wonderful about sharing my birthday with Three Kings Day. It’s always been special, and in some funny way, it makes me feel special today. I think everyone should feel that way on their birthday. It also means the Christmas Tree has always stayed up in our house until January 6th — marking the end of the Christmas Season. I LOVE that part. Read the rest of this entry
Carpe Diem!
No, this post won’t be about Living For Today, cuz we don’t know if we have Tomorrow! If that were the theme, there would be lots of frosting on my keyboard from the cupcakes I wanna be eating on the “final days”. I mean, there is some truth to Living for Today…..but it’s not the thought we’re going to explore together. In some respects, what we’re going to explore is how to use TODAY as a tool to create many many more Tomorrows for your life. A few times along this journey toward half marathon running and weight loss, I’ve had to create and commit and recommit to strategies for “winning the battle”, “taking the hill”, you know, aka …. finding success when the goal is long-term and far away. To Alpaca and back again!
Training Week 2 completed yesterday with 13.5 miles underfoot! Wow, I’m so happy with that. My run last Monday taught me so much about the importance of the short run that follows the long run. I was soooo stiff when I woke up last Monday. I was a little worried about running when I was feeling so stiff. It’s crazy how much damage 5 miles did to me! But once I got outside and did my 1.5 miles, I felt just like normal again. The short run really works. I’m not 100% sure what was happening in my muscles, but they stretched and relaxed, and….I think they grew. Yea, grew. It was awesome. Read the rest of this entry
Brand new….again….and a gift to boot!
First and foremost, Happy New Year friends!
2012 snuck in on us last night, and here we are with a brand spanking new year in front of us, waiting like a blank canvas for us to draw on it. How often are you given the gift of a fresh start? A do-over? A chance to be brand new – AGAIN??!! My friend Lina’s sister had brand new baby twins just a handful of weeks ago. A little baby boy and a baby girl. Oh my goodness, are they small. Teeny, tiny, and perfect. All little fingers and toes exactly where they belong, heartbeats a flutter, little smiles with closed eyes as they sleep. Perfect. The world and their lives are ALL in front of them. Their lives are brand new — what will they do with them? Isn’t it a wonder to think such thoughts when you see those brand new babies??
