Countdown 3 Weeks! Lessons from Santa!
I drafted this post on Sunday, April 1st and failed to post it!! DUH! My BAD, Apologies to all!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Time’s a tickin’! And running this Sunday for my 6.5 mile long run had my thoughts wandering back to Christmas! Yeah, Christmas! Oh, no, it wasn’t cold. In fact it was a gorgeous morning, and the yellow forsythia was still ablaze. So why was I revisiting Christmas? Well, because it dawned on me that my Christmas present delivered by Old St Nick himself has been a savior to me these last few weeks. I looked down at my Garmin Watch on my wrist — and realized that Santa might just be the greatest assistance I’ve had through this adventure. Let’s dig in, and I’ll explain. 20/20 Vision
“Get a Vision for Your Self and …..It Will Pull You Forward.” I just heard this on Oprah Life Class, of all places, but Gosh, this is so true! I could barely walk around the block, when my Vision was born. I didn’t own running shoes. I couldn’t breathe and talk at the same time. But already, my Vision had begun to change my life….simply because I dared to be brave enough to speak it. “I Am A Runner”. Read the rest of this entry
The Countdown Begins!! 5 Weeks!
It was a busy weekend full of chores, and shopping, and paper mache school projects and Susan B Anthony presentation prep……and running. Yes running. 6.5 miles of running on Sunday….18 miles for the week. This week, distance didn’t matter. Pace didn’t matter. Speed, time — nope…didn’t matter. This week, the only thing that mattered was mental. Did I enjoy it. Enjoyment. Yeah…..That’s what mattered. That’s really all that ever really mattered all along. Read the rest of this entry
Paying It Forward
I woke up this morning around 643am — just a few minutes before the alarm was to go off. As I lay there under the sheets and my quilt, I heard a signal of a different sort. The birds outside — they were chirping and singing. Not squawking the way they do when they’ve returned from the south juuuust a little too early, and their alarming chatter is present to warn you — stay under the blankets, tuck the quilt a little tighter — it’s COLD out here. Nope, not today. The birds were singing– those light, beautiful, melodically spaced chirps — offering notes of encouragement — “It’s safe to come outdoors — it’s NICE today.” So I knew what needed to happen. Today was the day. It was time to open the garage door — and dig out my old friend TREX and bike it to my Weight Watchers Meeting. Today was going to be NICE. The birds said so. Exercising the Mind
Well, I’m finally feeling better. My only cold during my whole training so far — went straight to my lungs, and put me off the road for a week. I took the time to rest, because…well….breathing IS a requirement for running. So, I needed it. Period. End of Guilt.
Seven days later……Getting back on the road was I.N.T.E.R.E.S.T.I.N.G. Read the rest of this entry
Pep Talk
Ok Team — put your arms around the shoulders of your team mates and Huddle In. Heads together. Look to your right – “How’s she doing?” Look to your left – “How’s he doing?” Yeah. Me too. We’re tired.
