coffee conundrum!

coffee conundrum!

A weird thing happened today.  I talked to Peter….. LOL – NO – that’s not the weird thing!  We have been married for 8 years, but C.O.M.E.  O.N. P.E.O.P.L.E!    LOL

I happened to mention to Peter that I haven’t been enjoying my coffee lately, and I wasn’t sure why.  He looked at me and said, “Me too!”.  Weird!

We are coffee lovers.  Big hearts, hearts and love, love and hearts……coffee is a joy for us!  Even more so for Peter than for me.  So for me to have fallen out of love with it was one thing — but for Peter to have fallen out of love with it …was ……. unheard of!  It was time for coffee counseling, for sure.

Of course I began immediately to analyze what had changed.  This was serious.  All attempts must be made!  We’ve both been on a track to reduce our sugar intake, even the artificial variety.  So a few weeks ago we switched from Splenda to Raw Sugar.  For me, it takes some adjusting to the “less sweet” flavor.  So I gave it time.  This morning, I told my husband….I just don’t think I can do it.  I need to go back to Splenda.  So I made a cup of my Caramel Drizzle coffee and tossed in a Splenda.  What happened next….worried me even more.

I Just Could NOT Drink It.  It was waaaaay too sweet.  Practically undrinkable.  I poured it down the drain, and made another cup with the raw sugar.  Better.  It was better.  but.  just.  not.  as.  good.   As good as what Diane?  As good as what?  What is it you are comparing it to?  Our coffee at home is not as good as what??

And all of a sudden — like a flash of lightning — I knew.  It dawned on me, like a flash of genius.  Our coffee at home….was not as good as……..P.A.R.I.S!

Oh no!

Paris!   Our trip has caused a coffee conundrum!

Cafe creme,   cafe au lait,    cafe noissette!  How the hell was Keurig supposed to compete with..(gulp)….all of that!  And the little spoons!   The little spoons . were.  just.  so.  d@mned.  cute!

Well — we’ve suffered as long as we can.  We’ve lasted as long as two coffee lovers could hold up under such chinese water torture conditions.  I’ve been online today, watching every YouTube video I could find.  My credit card is still hot, but….the espresso machine will be here next week.

Thank goodness.  Because I felt my soul withering…just a little.  Now, I just need to figure out…..where the h#ll to find me some of those adorable little spoons!

Ciao for now….Diane

About Diane

Ciao! My name is Diane. I'm a wife, a mom, a working professional, and a Weight Watcher from New Jersey. I started blogging in 2011, at 45 years old, when I was training for my first Half Marathon at Rutgers on April 22, 2012. Since then, I've lost 80 pounds, completed my Half Marathon goal and gone on to train for and run my very first Full Marathon. On Jan 13, 2013, I ran the Disney Marathon in Orlando, Fl! What an incredible day. As the saying goes -- "The person who starts the race is not the same person who finishes the race." I am forever changed! So now we move on to the next phase of this journey! Come along. We're in this together!! Ciao for now!

  1. I really didn’t even have to read the blog post to know what that problem was. I already knew that nothing in America could compare to your coffee experience in Paris. Aahhh…the troubles we face. 🙂

  2. “How ya gonna keep ’em down on the farm, after they’ve seen Parie???” Who knew that song was about coffee … NOT … HAHAHA!!!
An Italian Import store will have those spoons. My true Italian friends, born there, all have espresso spoons:>)
